Mick Laymon, was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Mick received a BM in Jazz Trombone and a MM in Jazz Composition and Arranging from DePaul University. While in school he studied under, Buddy Baker, Tim Coffman, and Tom Matta. Over the years Mick has had the opportunity to work with the following ensembles; The O'Jays, The Dells, BS Brass Band, Professor John and his Big Hands Band, Kong Fuzi, The Larry Pecorella Big Band, Lena Prima Orchestra, The Rock and Roll Chef, Chicago Catz, Joy Art Music/Uncle Butchie's Hot House, and the John Burnett Orchestra. His trombone stylings can be heard on national commercials for both Hallmark and JC Penneys' as well as the sound track for the independent film "Orson". Mick has been fortunate to be on the following albums as not only a trombonist but also as arranger, The BS Brass Band's, "Two For the Show", Kong Fuzi's debut album, "All for Funk, and Funk for All", and Paris Delane and his Tye Dye Skye on their debut album , "The Learning Tree". Mick has also arranged for The Screamin' Demons DePaul University Pep Band, The New Trier High School Pep Band, Sway Chicago, and many others.
